Dead Until Dark (Southern Vampire Mysteries, No. 1)

Dead Until Dark - Charlaine Harris So I've tried to read this book last November and I'm sad to say I thought it was complete utter trash. I hated the main character, she's worse than my dads 24 year old bimbo gf, the vampire is named Bill(really!?) And I found the story dull and boring. Within the next few months my aunt has become obsessed with the Tv show True Blood and kept gushing about how sexy Eric is and blah blah blah! So a week ago I checked the first season out from the library and rushed home to start. Oh. My. Fucking. God. ... its so freaking bad, but yet so addicting. There's a TON of sex, nudity, drugs, blood and gore. But there's also sexy vampires, awesome southern culture, and quite good mysteries that keep me guessing. I'm totally addicted to the show right now. Its becoming pretty mad actually. I watched season two in one day and didn't even get up to the use the bathroom ...0.0 Its all worth it too see my Eric. Yes MY Eric ;) I wish Bill's sweet romantic ways were placed with Eric's sweet hot body. * day dreaming*...............

*drool*
.................

But ah.. anyway I'm pretty much in love with the show. I'm at the stage where its becoming very unhealthy.

Onward with the book!

So since Im in love with the show I came to the decision to try Dead until Dark one last time. Normally that's breaking my rule of never reading a book that I couldn't even finish since it was so shitty. But what the hell, people deserve second chances so why cant books?

I'm happy to say I loved this book. Not as much as I love the show but I still loved it none the less. Yes, Sookie is still a dumb empty flower pot, Bill is still a stupid name for a vampire, and the writing isn't as magical as some of the other books I adore, but this was still enjoyable with all the flaws. In the end I'd say this will clearly become my guilty pleasure series. The only small problem I had with this was that we are only reading Sookies point of view. I'm so used to the story switching POV's like in the show that I was somewhat bored with just Sookie. I love getting to know Jason Terra and the other town people better in the show. I'll miss that deeply.

My advice for those of you who hated this book: Do what I did. Give the Tv show a try if you already haven't. If you come to love the show as much as I do now maybe reread this book again. It might surprise you in the end. Or not.

I'm reading book two now as I type this sentence :D
