Shattered Souls

Shattered Souls - Mary Lindsey Rating....2.5
*crying like a baby*
I hate myself......*sniff* ok.....here we go fellow bookworms.....

I'm very disappointed in how this book turned out. Iv been waiting about a year to read it and ordered it weeks before it came out at the library. I checked every day to see when it was gonna come in. When I finally received it I had tears of joy in my eyes and rushed home to start. Then I realized, shit! I had books I HAD to finish that day so I just took a small peak in shattered souls and promised myself just a chapter or two.

Read the first 3 pages and LOVED it! It was creepy start to a story, reminded me of the summoning by kelley armstrong in the beginning with the ghosts. Sadly I had to put this down before I got too into it. Days pass slowly christmas comes and goes then today I finally plop my ass on the couch with this book and a glass on dr. Pepper and begun once again. ...

As you can tell I did not finish this book. I read, what seemed like forceful read, up to page 200 and could not bear with it any longer. You have no idea how many times I had to pinch my self in order to keep going.

ok let's start with the so called love interest shall we. Ahem. Lenzi is dating zak. Has been for a few months. Zak is sweet and caring at the beginning of the book. He is there for her when the "voices" come in her head and she starts seeing things. Zak trys to help her cope with everything, he even
cancels the fancy dinner he was planning on taking her to because she didn't wanna go anywhere. Zak seeems like the good boyfriend until they go to the damn cemetary...then magically he brings out the alcohol and becomes somewhat of an asshole. Well first of all most teenage boys drink so I didn't care about that. He seemed fine to me until grrrr....alden"yuck" comes into the scene. Since alden showed up the author makes zak turn into a jerk. I hated that. Just because the"perfect" guy shows up doesn't mean she has to fall for him. For christ sake she already has a boyfriend! Sorry but girls like that are called sluts where I live. I'm not calling lenzi a whore, it just seems like she was playing both boys(remind you of anyone....cough cough BELLA SWAN) I'm all for love triangles but I just didn't see the point in making the kind boyfriend become a ass when alden shows up.

Speaking of that "ghost boy", I hated him. Could not picture him to be considered "hot". Just couldn't come up with a clear picture of how he looked like at all. He also is very stalker like. (Edward) he seems to be always there when lenzi is in need of saving....so between a alcoholic boyfriend and a stalker, controlling boy, it was hard to choose a side. In the end I couldn't bear it, I couldn't pick one. Personally they both suck to me. Sorry...

Lenzi.....oh lenzi.....let's say she was not the ideal herione I haad in mind when I first heard about this book. I thought she was gonna be smart, strong, and able to stick up for herself....that's not the case. She ends up being saved not one, but many times by alden. (Can you say twilight and basically every YA book nowadays...) total yawn...

This book deals with recarnation if you can't tell already. That is a sore subject to me. Ever since I read fallen by lauren kate(damn you) I have been internally damaged by the thought of recarnation. Shattered souls has that "fallen" effect that you will be able to see through the book. I just couldn't stand it, left a sour taste in my mouth.

......alas there was indeed some good that came from this book. The cover for instance is utterly gorgous!!! I love how the dress are the flower petals and just simply fall apart. I loved the choice. Of colors they used for this cover. The green and dark red go perfect together. I think mary lindsey is a terrific author. Even though I didn't like the book I loved her writing. Confusing right? Ill explain: she is very descriptive in her writing and I really enjoyed many of the scenes. I could totally picture her dads grave stone in my mind. I loved her writing style. I loved her general idea for this book. I just didn't like how her idea ended up in the fine print..

In the end I don't get all the hype coming from this book. Maybe the ending is the best, I wouldn't know I didn't finish this book. I didn't think this book was as unique as many people are saying it was. It had a little bit of twilight(what book doesn't now these days), fallen, and some angelfire in it. I have not read that book but did read some reviews and agree this book kinda sounds a little bit like it.....

I very much wanted to like this book but you know what they saw...don't judge a book by its cover! I'm going to try to stay away from newer popular over hyped books from now on...just don't want to get so disappointed again....
